Climate At Work: Building Impactful Workplace Sustainability Communities

June 13, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am PDT

Join us for an extraordinary event as we bring together the visionaries behind two of the most influential workplace climate communities in the world—Anthropocene at Google and Microsoft’s monumental 10,000-member employee sustainability community. We will delve into the art of building and sustaining grassroots movements within companies, and learn how to ignite change from the ground up.

What you can expect from this session:

We’ll start with introductions to first get to know our host and panelists. From there we’ll ask panelists questions that were submitted before this event and some from our Work on Climate team, followed by 15 minutes of open Q&A from the audience.

About our Panelists:

Zoe Samuel is a Venture Partner at Starshot Capital, a venture capital firm based in the Bay Area and Los Angeles that invests in early stage climate startups. Starshot Capital’s goal is to find and fund cleantech companies with potential gigaton impact.

Prior to joining Starshot, Zoe worked at Google where she co-created Google’s largest internal grassroots climate solutions community, Anthropocene, now over 4000 strong. Anthropocene supports Google climate projects such as Project SunroofAnthroKrishi, and many more, as well as providing educational and career resources to Googlers seeking to contribute to climate solutions. Samuel also led circularity and climate programs and engagement for gTech, one of the larger Google PAs, working toward a world without waste. Prior to gTech, she worked on the Google Assistant and helped train LaMDA (aka: Google Bard), where she designed a climate expert as one of the first Bard characters. In 2020, she was one of the early in-house experts at Work on Climate.

Drew Wilkinson is a climate activist, community organizer, and founder of Microsoft’s 10,000 member employee sustainability community. He works on the people side of sustainability at the intersection of employee engagement, culture and change management, community building, and leadership development. His mission is to make sustainability part of everybody’s job. In a past life he was a singer in a punk band and eco-pirate with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
